HOW TO SPRAY ADHESIVE

Spray adhesive is an essential tool for installing carpet felt in your camper. It ensures a strong and permanent bond between the camper felt and the surface, such as wood, metal, or plastic. To ensure the best possible result and ensure your felt covering in your camper van lasts, you should follow the correct procedure exactly.

1. Choose the right spray adhesive

  • Use a spray adhesive specifically designed for textiles such as polyester or wool felt .
  • The adhesive should be heat-resistant up to at least 110 degrees Celsius, as vehicles are subject to high temperature fluctuations.
  • A high-quality spray adhesive ensures that your felt covering adheres permanently to wood, metal, and plastic—surfaces commonly found in camper interiors.

2. Preparation of the surfaces

  • All surfaces to be glued must be clean, free of grease and dry .
  • Use a suitable cleaner to remove all residues and ensure the adhesive adheres. Commercial silicone remover is sufficient.

3. Prepare spray adhesive

  • Shake the can vigorously for about 30 seconds to ensure all ingredients are well mixed.
  • Select the appropriate setting on the spray head. For this application, the high setting is recommended for even distribution.

4. Use the two-sided adhesive method

The two-sided adhesive process ensures particularly strong adhesion:

  • Spray both surfaces – the surface to be glued and the carpet felt – evenly with adhesive.
  • Keep a spray distance of about 20 cm .
  • Tip: Do not hold the spray can too close to the surface to avoid spot soaking or uneven application.

5. Allow to air dry

  • Allow the adhesive to dry for 5 to 10 minutes , depending on the ambient temperature.
  • The glue should no longer appear liquid, but slightly sticky.
  • Note: For highly absorbent surfaces, a pre-primer is necessary.

6. Joining the surfaces

  • Place the felt on the surface without tension .
  • Press both joining partners (camper felt and surface) firmly together.

7. Let it dry

  • The recommended processing temperature is 15 to 30 degrees Celsius .
  • The final bond is achieved after 24 hours .
  • Make sure that the ambient temperature does not fall below this level during this time.

Conclusion 🐺

Following these steps will ensure your felt lining stays in place in your camper, motorhome, or caravan. The two-sided adhesive bond allows the adhesive to bond with itself, creating a particularly strong bond.

The advantage of spray adhesive: Small adjustments are possible! If you're gluing a crease into your felt trim on a difficult contour, such as a wheel arch, you can carefully peel off the camper felt, spray it again, and neatly reapply it.

With this method, your camper interior will be professionally covered in no time! Have fun with your felting!
