Custom-made aluminum shower tray in a motorhome – conversion on the Bimobil LB365
🚐 Renewing the shower cubicle in your camper: Conversion on the Bimobil LB365
Anyone with a Anyone who drives a Bimobil LB365 appreciates robust technology and clever upgrades – but even high-quality vehicles aren't immune to wear and tear. In this project, we'll show you step by step how we repair a broken motorhome shower tray and simultaneously upgrade the shower cubicle in your camper to a new level.
Goal: The old plastic tub will give way to a custom-made aluminum solution – leak-proof, stable, and optimally adapted to the existing geometry. At the same time, we'll take the opportunity to upgrade the entire motorhome's wet room and make it fit for many more years of travel.
1. Introduction
Sven from Adventure Truck takes us on a new project: replacing a defective shower tray in the motorhome with a durable, custom-made aluminum shower tray .
Especially with older models or standard motorhome shower cubicles, it often makes sense to modernize the wet room in the camper – for greater tightness, comfort and longevity.

2. Inventory in the wet room
A look into the wet room of the Bimobil LB365 quickly reveals the need for renovation.
Reasons for the exchange:
- Significant crack in the existing motorhome shower tray
- The construction does not make optimal use of the space – valuable shower space is lost due to surrounding edges

Instead of just making spot repairs, the old tub is completely replaced.
"We'll take out the edges here—these edges—and fill the whole thing with a continuous shower tray. Then you can use the entire area."
This approach not only allows for better use of space, but also provides a sustainable solution for the leaky and damaged shower cubicle in the camper.
3. Removal of the old shower tray & preparation of the substructure
After the old shower tray in the motorhome has been completely dismantled, including all silicone joints and adhesive residue, the next step is the preparation of a stable substructure .

The goal is to extend the new shower tray for the motorhome right up to the wall – without interruptions caused by factory-installed floor connectors. Especially with a classic shower cubicle in a camper like the Bimobil LB365, a continuous surface is crucial for watertightness and comfort.

The solution: A simple yet effective substructure that is specifically tailored to the vehicle – ideal for the subsequent installation of the custom-made aluminum shower tray.
4. Measurement & CAD planning of the shower tray
The next step is to custom-make the new shower tray . This requires precise measurements and digital planning:
- Two diagonal measurements to determine the smallest installation dimension
- Deduction of 2 mm tolerance in order to be able to use the camper shower tray later without any problems
- Creation of a CAD drawing that is transferred directly to the CNC machine
Sven: “Even a simple hand-drawn sketch is enough for us – we do the technical implementation for our machines ourselves anyway.”
This type of planning is perfect for shower trays with special shapes – for example, with wheel arch cutouts, conical shapes or asymmetrical edges.
5. Laying the drain hose & preparing for installation
The drain on the old RV shower wasn't optimally positioned. A new hole will be drilled for the new solution because the original hose was too short and thin (19 mm).
A new 25 mm hose is installed, complete with a transition piece and secure connection. The new drain leads toward the tank—ideal for retrofitting on other models, too.
Note: Many older vehicles have porous hoses – a good opportunity to upgrade the motorhome wet room.
6. Substructure with window technology
For the correct installation of the aluminum shower tray, a stable base is required – the substructure must compensate for small differences in height.
Instead of using mounting foam or wooden slats, Sven uses a trick from window construction:
It models a triangular pyramid joint that adapts flexibly to the supporting surface.
This solution is durable, vibration-resistant and perfectly suited for use in any shower tray in a camping vehicle – whether in a van or caravan .
7. Installation & sealing of the aluminum shower tray
Now the new aluminum shower tray is installed. The adhesive is applied, the tray is weighted down, and then permanently sealed with silicone.
The transition between the 25 mm and 19 mm hose is deliberately located above the drain so that in the event of a leak, the water still drains away correctly.

Tip: A complete replacement up to the tank is only realistic if the tank is removed – in this case, the connecting solution is completely sufficient. This solution is ideal for anyone who wants to retrofit a shower cubicle in their motorhome or upgrade existing models.
8. Conclusion & Community Tip
The result is convincing:
The new custom-made aluminum shower tray for the motorhome is leak-proof, dimensionally stable and a visual highlight.
It makes optimal use of the available space, reduces joints and is more durable than any standard plastic tub.

This solution is ideal for:
- New installation in self-build projects
- Replacing old plastic tubs
- Camper showers with individual floor plans
- Special shapes in the shower cubicle for campers
