CARPET FELT FAQ
What is Carpet Felt?
Automotive felt, also called carpet felt or stretch felt, is a specially woven fabric that is primarily used to decorate vehicle interiors.
High-quality carpet felt is characterized by 4-way stretchability. Adaptation to difficult vehicle contours, such as edges, curves, corners or joints, is guaranteed.
Why Carpet Felt in the Camper?
Carpet felt is the ideal solution to upgrade the interior of your camper quickly, inexpensively and easily. The stretch felt adapts perfectly to all contours - whether it's pillars, beads or wheel arches.
Unsightly areas such as rear doors or roof linings can be easily concealed, creating a cozy and appealing interior climate in the motorhome.
What are the advantages of carpet felt in a camper?
Carpet felt improves the acoustics in the camper through effective sound insulation and also offers insulating properties. It is long-lasting, durable and environmentally friendly, as our carpet felt is made exclusively from recycled PES fibers.
Which felt is best for a camper?
Elastic 4-way felt is best because it allows for quick and easy processing. Stretch felt in particular adapts perfectly to all body shapes in the campervan and can be attached without creases or folds. Thanks to its ultra-elastic properties, the carpet felt can even be deep-drawn into corners and joints without tearing the material.
How many meters of carpet felt do I need for my vehicle?
The amount of material needed depends on which areas of your camper need to be felted - entire interiors, headliners, plastic parts or the driver's cab. Windows and roof hatches also play a role.
In general, you determine the requirement based on the length x width of the vehicle. Measure the panel area and calculate additional material for deep-drawing the corners, edges and curves.
Also take into account the additional material required for folding over the felt covering for small or plastic elements, as well as for any waste and overhang.
What materials are needed to install felt cladding?
For your DIY camper van felt covering you will need, as the name suggests, automotive felt. You will also need spray adhesive , a cutter knife, degreaser, cleaning cloth, masking tape and a ruler or tape measure.
Here you will find a detailed list of materials with additional tools and detailed step-by-step instructions.
At what temperature can carpet felt be glued? For gluing the felt covering we recommend the special spray adhesive TEMP 110 . Our felt adhesive has a processing temperature between +15°C and +30°C .
Will creases occur when you fold carpet felt?
For high-quality premium automotive felt, creases are no problem at all. Carpet felt from Adventure Truck is stretchy, pressure-elastic and durable, so that no creases form. Multiple tests have confirmed that no residue is visible in the end result.
Can you see transitions when gluing carpet felt?
High-quality automotive felt is easy to glue together. Thanks to its stretchability and special structure, the transitions between the felt pieces remain almost invisible when joined together.
What about moisture in the camper?
Carpet felt acts as a moisture regulator by absorbing condensation and releasing it back into the environment when there is good air circulation. To avoid moisture problems, regular ventilation and heating in the camper, similar to living spaces, is essential.
How well does carpet felt insulate?
In general, camper felt has insulating properties. On the one hand, carpet felt is soundproof, and on the other hand, it insulates against heat and cold.
Of course, felt cladding in a camper is no substitute for conventional insulation. We therefore strongly recommend installing full insulation underneath the felt cladding.
Can you glue Carpet Felt directly onto insulation?
Carpet felt can easily be applied to insulation such as Armaflex or Kaiflex.
When attaching, both the carpet felt and the insulation should be sprayed with our spray adhesive on both sides. After the two-sided process, the spray adhesive is activated and ensures a particularly strong and permanent bond.
Do I need a special glue?
A special spray adhesive is required for the Carpet Felt, as it is not a self-adhesive felt . We recommend the special spray adhesive TEMP 110 due to the high heat resistance (up to 110 degrees Celsius).
How much spray adhesive do I need for my felt covering?
For optimal adhesion, both the felt and the surface are sprayed (two-sided adhesive process). Experience has shown that one can of spray adhesive is sufficient for around 1.5 m², depending on the spraying behavior.
Can I return Carpet Felt?
No, because it is an individual cut from the roll. To be on the safe side, you can order a sample package in advance.
Is Carpet Felt also available as self-adhesive felt?
Yes, we also offer our carpet felt in a self-adhesive version from the roll. No spray adhesive is required for this, as the self-adhesive felt is already equipped with an adhesive film on one side.
